In mixer bowl, cream butter, sugar and molasses; beat in egg. Sift dry ingredients together; gradually mix into creamed mixture.
Stir in raisins. Chill dough. Roll out to 1/8 inch thickness on floured board; cut into desired shapes with sharp-edged cookie cutters.
Bake on greased baking sheets in 180°C/350°F oven for 10 to 12 minutes (Baking time may vary depending on size of cookies).
Remove to racks to cool. Decorate as desired.
Hint:
To prevent your raisins sticking to your knife when cutting, coat the knife in a little vegetable oil first.
